Comparison of French, Dutch and German methods of designing building, town and city fortifications. The French method is represented by the work of Sébastien Le Prestre, Seigneur de Vauban (1633-1707), the Dutch by Menno, Baron van Coehoorn (1634-1704) and the German by the author (based on the designs of Georg Rimpler), concluding with Sturm's inevitable preference of his own style, including discussion of residences, storehouses, markets and other provisions within the fortifications showing elevations and plans.
