ABOUT
Gurari Collections specializes in antiquarian and contemporary arts from the 17th century to the present. The gallery represents select museum quality and collected artists.
The "inventive mind" would describe the gallery's overarching thematic intention. The gallery explores the intersection of art and science - a kind of cabinet of curiosity.
Areas of specialization are in architecture + design, urbanism, the human figure, fantasies and follies as well as objects of the unusual - science, and the allied arts. This includes furnishings and artifacts that are machine age and art deco in period and in character.
The gallery's location is among numerous art galleries, artisans and design boutiques in what is known as the SOWA district in the South End of Boston. Gurari Collections is a modern and open space in a renovated mill building from 1880.
SERVICES
Gurari Collections was established in 1999 by Russ Gerard. For 10 years on Beacon Hill, and the last 14 in the South End of Boston, the gallery continues to offer antique works-on-paper, select contemporary art, unusual objects and artifacts which cohabitate the gallery space, unless there are specific thematic or artist’s exhibitions.
Prior to establishing Gurari Collections, Russ Gerard had engaged in concurrent professional ventures and activities including purveyor of antiquarian work-on-paper, practice of architecture + design, as well as teaching and administration of architectural education. These professional and cultural experiences, as well as learning by osmosis from the environment that he grew up in, all contribute to making Gurari Collections a “cross-roads” for people’s fascinations.
Gurari Collections provides art consultancy and design services. Our experience can be used at any given point of a project, from a single wall to a complex space project. We can provide the art and artifacts, as well as the guidance to its clients in the fields of art and design.
Our services include art acquisitions, curatorial and exhibition design, appraisal, research documentation, and framing. Design services are available.
Gurari Collections has provided services to museums, institutions, international designers, and private collections. Film and television actively seek out props from the gallery's diverse collection. Artists the gallery represents have work in the permanent collections of The Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The British Museum, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Pushkin Museum of Fine Art and the Boston Public Library.
Gurari Collections and its' artists have been recognized in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Vanity Fair, Bravo Television (Wendy Artin, Arts & Minds), Boston Magazine, Design New England, Art New England, Artscope...
